HOUSTON – Streaks are made to be broken.

Whoever conjured up that old cliché obviously knew nothing of  Undertaker. After an epic battle pitting shadow against light, The Demon from Death Valley was finally able to bury the soul of “Mr.WrestleMania,” Shawn Michaels. A triumph of darkness, the victory propels Undertaker’s WrestleMania winning streak to an unprecedented 17-0.

As more than 70,000 sets of eyes focused on the ring inside Houston’s Reliant Stadium, vendors twiddled their thumbs and bathroom breaks were put on hold during the classic confrontation that had the international crowd fixed to their seats.

Having never defeated HBK, Undertaker set a deliberate and destructive pace, which seemed to pay dividends early in the match. Then again, Michaels enjoys quite a reputation for stamina and managed to recapture the momentum before moving outside the ring.

That’s when The Deadman leaped over the top rope, taking aim at HBK. But just as Undertaker was about to land atop Michaels with the full force of his nearly 300 pound frame, HBK darted aside and pulled a cameraman into Undertaker’s path. After a near count-out, The Phenom dragged himself back into the ring, and the legendary Superstars traded some of the most lethal maneuvers in their arsenal.

In the end, though, Undertaker would administer a second and final Tombstone to bury Michaels and secure his place in the annals of WWE history.

Though he lost, Michaels is to be commended for his efforts, never flinching from the daunting task before him. Unlike many of his predecessors, Michaels seemed unafraid to face The Phenom on WWE’s grandest stage, girded by both devotion and confidence.

For his part, Undertaker never once lost sight of his goal: Keeping his WrestleMania record unblemished. Now, in light of his monumental victory, Undertaker can rest – perhaps not “in peace” – but at least until he’s called on to defend The Streak at next year’s WrestleMania.

jon-cenaHOUSTON – In front of a packed Reliant Stadium, John Cena regained the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating now former World Heavyweight Champion Edge and Big Show.

More than 72,000 raucous WWE fans erupted to their feet in excitement during Cena’s entrance, which took a new take on his long-standing trademark catchphrase, “You Can’t See Me.” As far as the eye could see, dozens upon dozens of Cena lookalikes – all wearing his “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect” shirt – came out and parted ways as the genuine article came out and saluted Reliant Stadium. Though the odds were stacked against him this Sunday night, Cena’s lookalikes and fans cheered him on as he raced down to the ring, refusing to be daunted by the task at hand.

After waging a brutal war with his opponents, Cena summoned from deep within and hit the Rated-R Superstar with an Attitude Adjustment. Next, he hoisted then 400-pound plus World’s Largest Athlete atop his shoulders and – with the 70,000 in attendance cheering him on – Cena dropped Big Show with a thunderous Attitude Adjustment. After the carnage, Cena pinned Big Show to regain his gold.

The exhibition of brute strength caused the WWE Universe to erupt in raw emotion, putting their stamp of approval on Cena at one of the most historical events in WWE’s history.

The victory was a sweet measure of revenge for the Raw Superstar who saw The Ultimate Opportunist finagle his way into the Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out and emerge from the evil structure with Cena’s gold.

Ever since that shocking night in February, Cena set his sights on regaining the World Heavyweight Championship. Like a tenacious pit bull, Cena kept himself close to the trio of  Smack Down General Manager Vickie, her husband, Edge, and Big Show. Wherever they went – Raw or SmackDown – he was right there behind them.

Cena’s persistence paid off.

At the World Heavyweight Championship contract signing on Raw, Guerrero shocked her husband and Big Show by revealing that she was going to allow Cena to compete in the Triple Threat Match at the 25th Anniversary of  Wrestle Mania.

And it was Cena who revealed why – he had been holding onto salacious video footage of Edge’s wife and Big Show engaged in extra marital carousing .

Hustle, loyalty and respect. Those attributes certainly worked for Cena over the years in the ring, and now on the big screen as star of the action-packed movie, 12 Rounds.

And, at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, it was all of those traits, combined with steadfast determination and raw power that equaled success for The Champ.

HOUSTON – For months, the venomous Randy Orton tore through the life of Triple H brutally attacking and injuring his father-in-law, brother-in-law and even his wife. At the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania, The Legend Killer had an opportunity to take away yet another thing his rival held dear: The WWE Championship. Yet despite Orton’s sadistic mind games, Triple H persevered, defeating his opponent to avenge his family and keep his coveted championship gold resting securely around his waist.

The match began with not one bang, but two, as Triple H and Orton both hit their patented maneuvers (the Pedigree and RKO respectively) within moments of the contest’s start. The Game dominated the early match, prompting The Legend Killer to move the fight outside of the ring. Keenly aware of the stipulation that would have the WWE Championship change hands on a disqualification or count-out, Orton hoped to leave his opponent battered and broken outside the ring as the referee counted to 10. But Triple H was running on pure fury, repeatedly coming back from the third-generation Superstar’s underhanded tactics.

With his options running out, Orton took out the referee, giving himself a few unsupervised moments to retrieve a sledgehammer from underneath the ring. But as he started to climb back in, Triple H served the venomous Superstar some of his own medicine, delivering a vicious punt and retrieving the sledgehammer for himself. While the ring official was still incapacitated, the WWE Champion clobbered Orton, setting him up a game-winning Pedigree and three-count.

Randy Orton’s Road to WrestleMania began in earnest at the 2009 Royal Rumble, where with the help of The Legacy he eliminated Triple H to earn a spot at WWE’s greatest spectacle. The Legend Killer’s phenomenal win came at a time when the third-generation Superstar was already up to his eyes in trouble for punting Mr.McMohan  in the head less than a week earlier. Orton’s ensuing rivalry with the WWE Chairman’s progeny quickly escalated to the point of no return, when in one night of utter brutality, Orton both punted Shane and RKO’d Stephanie, drawing her husband, a livid Triple H out to the ring to her aid.

Though he had already incapacitated three beloved members of The Game’s family, Orton still had his eye on his rival’s WWE Title, and subsequently announced that he would be challenging Triple H for it at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. Escalating into realms rarely seen in WWE, their conflict saw The Game smash his way through Orton’s St. Louis home, prompting the third-generation Superstar to once again attack his rival’s wife, but this time following it up with a demented kiss, which the handcuffed WWE Champion had no choice but to watch in rage-filled horror.

With his defeat of Randy Orton, Triple H achieved much more than simply retaining the WWE Title. For months, The Legend Killer and The Legacy had run roughshod over WWE’s royal family, promising that a win at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania would begin a new era. But with a punt, a sledgehammer and a thunderous Pedigree Triple H both avenged the McMahons and put an end to Orton’s delusions of grandeur.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After years of chasing the gold that had eluded him his entire career, Jeff Hardy  defied the odds at Armageddon, winning the Triple Threat Match against Edge and Triple H to become the new WWE Champion – his first World Title.

In a hard-fought battle full of power from The Game, grit from the former champion Edge, and high-flying, fast-paced action from Hardy, it was the involvement of one of Hardy’s rivals, Vladimir Kozlov, and his own brother, Matt Hardy, that inadvertently helped him capture the title. When Kozlov interfered and pulled Triple H out of the ring, all hell broke loose, and in the end, after Matt rid the ringside area of Kozlov, The Game nailed Edge with a Pedigree – virtually sealing another golden win for himself. But Jeff ascended the top rope and delivered a career-changing Swanton Bomb to earn the victory and the gold.

While Jeff had heard over the past few months from the likes of   SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero, Triple H and even Edge that he could never win the big one, Hardy proved all the doubters wrong in front of the raucous WWE Universe in Buffalo – all who stood and cheered in approval of Jeff’s historic win.

Jeff and his brother,ECW  Champion Matt Hardy, have made history, as both are World Champions at the same time, cementing their legacies during their tenures in WWE, and putting an exclamation point on their seven World Tag Team Title reigns.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – For weeks,Chris Jericho carried out cowardly attacks on World Heavyweight Champion John Cena, but at Armageddon, for the second time in less than a month, The Champ successfully defended his title against Jericho, teaching him the true meaning of the words “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect.”

In a match filled with reversals and near falls, these two battle-hardened ring warriors put it all on the line. Several times, one Superstar appeared to have the match won, but inevitably, they would escape from the clutches of their opponent. The WWE Universe held their breath as Cena powered out of the Walls of Jericho, and Jericho miraculously landed an attempted FU. In the end, however, the intensity of the World Heavyweight Champion won out, as he locked Jericho into an STFU for the win.

At Survivor Series, John Cena made his much anticipated return to the ring, where he defeated Chris Jericho to win his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship. Since then, the nefarious Jericho has been a constant thorn in The Champ’s side. Time after time on Raw, Jericho would interrupt Cena’s matches, attempting to get the upper hand by brutally assaulting the Superstar who relieved him of his championship gold. In addition to the physical attacks on The Champ, Jericho also repeatedly denigrated John Cena, his motto, and even worse: The members of the WWE Universe.

Going into Armageddon, the craven Jericho hoped that the preceding weeks had worn down his opponent and would give him the upper hand he so sorely lacked at Survivor Series. To the first-ever Undisputed Champion’s dismay, however, Cena was in top form, with his resolve strengthened by Jericho’s relentless, cowardly attacks. Fighting for the honor of the WWE Universe, and exemplifying the three words he lives his life by, “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect,” John Cena defeated the arrogant Chris Jericho, and left Armageddon with the World Heavyweight Title secure around his waist.

Chris Jericho spent months kicking, clawing and cheating his way toward the World Heavyweight Championship.

Then, at Survivor Series, a booming John Cena FU took it all away.

With such a heartshattering loss, a conniving Jericho will likely stop at nothing to feel the gold once more in his hands. There’s little doubt that the man who first came to “Save Us” and now needs saving himself has already begun plotting his resurgence at Armageddon.

For Cena, a man who feels so passionately about competing, watching from the sidelines must have made three months ooze along like syrup in Siberia. That long, lengthy wait makes it impossible to think that Cena will give up at Armageddon without the fight of his life.

When these two diametrically opposed individuals – a man who feels he owes the WWE Universe everything and a man who feels he owes the WWE Universe nothing – clash in the ring, each is guaranteed to expend 100 percent to prove that he was right all along

BOSTON Undertaker defeated Big Show in his trademark, a Casket Match, at the event that debuted The Phenom’s career Survivor Series to deny The World’s Largest Athlete the victory he claimed he would earn at the pay-per-view. (PHOTOS)

Using everything in his arsenal, including a leg drop through the announce table, Undertaker sealed the victory by closing the casket. Big Show did seem to have the match won early, but his reluctance to touch the casket to close the lid gave Undertaker the opening he needed to gain momentum. When Big Show tried to escape the arena, a burst of flames prevented him from doing so, and the Druids brought a second casket to the ramp.

After a short battle of the two imposing forces on the ramp, Undertaker was able to throw Big Show into the casket to earn the win.

What does this win mean for Undertaker, who has been embroiled in a heated rivalry with Big Show since The World’s Largest Athlete attacked The Phenom at Unforgiven? Will Big Show’s loss put him at odds with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero keeping him from achieving his goal of becoming WWE Champion?

BOSTON – In front of a capacity crowd in the TD Banknorth Garden, Edge stunned the WWE Universe by returning from Hell to become the new WWE Champion, defeating former champion Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov as a late entrant in the Triple Threat Match.

With Jeff Hardy out of action after being found unconscious in the stairwell of his Boston hotel earlier in the morning (Full story), Kozlov and Triple H battled each other one-on-one. Just when it looked like the champion had Kozlov where he wanted him with a hard-hitting Pedigree, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero interrupted the match to announce that it would indeed be Triple Threat – with Edge as the third competitor.

The WWE Universe had not seen any sign of life from Edge since Undertaker sent him to Hell at SummerSlam in a Hell in a Cell Match. But on this night, he was full of energy and unleashed on The Game with a vicious spear. Next, Hardy shocked the WWE Universe by running into the ring and attacking Edge. Then, Hardy jumped out of the ring to get a steel chair. He returned, knocking both Triple H and Kozlov to the canvas with angst-ridden chair shots to the head. A fired-up Edge took down Hardy with a spear. After the carnage, the Ultimate Opportunist capitalized, covering Triple H for the win.

Coincidently, the last time Edge won the WWE Championship was in a Triple Threat Match on Raw in July 2006, when he defeated John Cena and Rob Van Dam.

Edge’s victory ended the 12th reign of The King of Kings, who has held the WWE Championship since April.

The stunning course of events leaves the WWE Universe asking some compelling questions.

Exactly what happened to Hardy in his hotel? What will Triple H do to try and regain the gold? And what is the state of the relationship between SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero and her husband, Edge? Finally, how will Kozlov react to not winning the coveted gold he has been seeking?

Things are sure to be very interesting on Friday Night SmackDown.

BOSTON – After months spent recovering from emergency neck surgery, John Cena’s return to the ring was a triumphant one, as he defeated Chris Jericho at Survivor Series to win his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship.

For months, Chris Jericho reigned over Raw as World Heavyweight Champion, repelling challenges from dominant Superstars such as Shawn Michaels, Batista and CM Punk, walking away victorious from matches as varied as a Championship Scramble, Steel Cage Matches and even a brutal Ladder Match. But at Survivor Series, all of the first-ever Undisputed Champion’s trickery and deviousness came to naught as he was confronted with the sheer power and ferocity of a returning John Cena, who slammed Jericho with a thunderous FU before ultimately pinning his opponent for the win.

The entire WWE Universe sat in suspense the night of Survivor Series, eager for John Cena to return, but concerned for his medical condition so soon after going under the knife. Following a match against Batista at SummerSlam, Cena suffered a herniated disc in his neck, necessitating emergency surgery that kept the intense ring warrior sidelined up until now. But when the three-time WWE Champion stormed into the TD Banknorth Garden in his homeground of Boston, the fears of the WWE Universe were immediately alleviated, with Cena displaying the same passion and intensity that has made him a fan-favorite and household name around the world.

With his win at WWE’s second longest-running pay-per-view, new World Heavyweight Champion John Cena has finally saved us from the arrogant posturing and treachery of Chris Jericho, and in the process proved that he is more powerful and focused on victory than ever.
